Software Applications Engineer

I am currently on assignment at Entergy in The Woodlands, Texas. My responsibities include design and maintenance of enterprise-wide applications written in MS Access, Visual Basic, SQL Server, Oracle, and PL/I (on the Mainframe). I also maintain a series of third party applications and have experience maintain applications on the MS Server 2008 platform. I also work closely with my customers to ensure that all requirements are being met in a timely manner with very high quality. I am also responsible for the creation of project schedules.

Senior Analyst/Programmer

I performed both development and support rolls while in this position. My major activity was in support of the company's Billing Engine written in COBOL and running on a DEC ALPHA with Open VMS. This software is designed to collect and rate Cellular, Long Distance, Local Phone Service, Pager and Internet usage and produce customer bills using the technique "Convergent Billing". In addition, I am responsible for coordinating software releases with the company's Product Assurance and Quality Assurance Departments, as well as providing support for the various testing activities required by these departments. I functioned as primary on-call support analyst when processing problems were experienced. I also was responsible for the design and development of new features that are eventually were sold to our clients. While at Exxon as a Contract analyst, I lead the Y2K project for their Payables System entailing the conversion, testing and implementation of Mainframe applications in COBOL, PL/I, FOCUS, IMS, FILEAID, etc. I also identified problem areas and provided the correct solutions. I also provided project tracking information and maintained schedules. In addition I provided software support and interfaced with corporate personnel for the upgrade of the S/390 operating system to Language Environment (LE). I also performed all modifications as required for maintenance of the production system.

At San Jacinto College I have participated and supervised all phases of program development for the district. This includes all Lan/Client server development and mainframe development. In addition, I was responsible for the development and implementation of advanced data systems including voice and data systems. These systems utilized Mainframe and PC/Lan resources. I also established a DB2/OS2, and SQL Server and implemented the first prototype system utilizing the database and Micro Focus COBOL. This required supervision of the construction of hardware that was specific to the requirements of the database servers. In addition to the supervision and leadership of development activities, I am also responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations of the group and assignment of work to the appropriate personnel. I have also acquired the task of filling in for any of the software technical personnel in order to ensure that individual software problems are resolved in a timely fashion.

SRM&QAAs a Senior Software Engineer, I was responsible for the design and coding of a Problem Resolution and Corrective action system built to track hardware failures on the shuttle. Also have functioned as the Lead Senior Analyst for a Failure Analysis Trending System. My duties included writing of requirements and design specifications as well as design of overall system architectures and implementation strategies. I also supported the production batch system written in PL/1, DB2 and Micro Focus COBOL.MSCAs Team Lead for the On-Orbit MOC, I was responsible for the coordination of all phases of the development process. This included conducting code and design walk-through, statusing with all levels of management, and participating in the testing process. In addition, I functioned as liaison between my section and the Quality assurance team, in order to ensure that all QA concerns were met to produce the highest quality product possible.

Worked as a Senior Applications Analyst responsible for the Maintenance and development of merchandising and promotional systems. Responsibilities include project leadership with heavy participation in project planning, project scheduling and design of systems that provide the interface data necessary to maintain UPC Scanning Equipment in all stores. This required the direction of two to three programmers to accomplish the required tasks. Also worked in the maintenance of production systems and was called on to provide assistance in solving production problems as they occurred. All systems were coded using CA/Datacom, Ideal, Cobol/DL and COBOL/CICS.

As a consultant, performed design and coding of Oil Accounts Receivable System for EXXON. This work required the use of PL/1, FOCUS, JCL, IMS, and SPF Dialog Manager. In addition heavy user interface was required for approval of all unit test and Integration Test results. Other systems experience included support of MSA Gas and Oil Accounts Receivable package. This required the use of IMS DB/DC in order to maintain production on-line and batch applications. As a member of the Exxon System Support team, I was responsible for maintenance of downstream Gas Accounting subsystems

Sr Software Engineer

Shuttle Operation and Planning Complex (SOPC) development team responsible for lead high level System Engineering and Design (using IMS DB/DC, PL/1 and ADF II) of Shuttle Reconfiguration Data Collection Subsystem. Automated Mission Payload Tracking System (AMPTS) development team participating in the establishment of a Management Information System for in the development of Shuttle Payloads. This system was coded in NOMAD2 and was constructed of many interactive screens and reports for the tracking of mission payloads for the NASA Space Shuttle program.

Sr Software Engineer

At Ford I performed in a key role in the design (using PL/1, ADF II and IMS DB/DC) and implementation of information systems designed to aid the Shuttle for training and flight software development. Tasks involved with this project included participation in requirements definition and review of these requirements with NASA users involved in the Shuttle Training Facility. My duties included a lead role in detailed design specifications and handbooks, preliminary design review (PDR) and critical design review (CDR) materials. In addition I played a major role in the design, coding and unit testing of specific applications. I also conducted design walkthroughs, code walkthroughs, and integration testing of newly developed software. I have also developed as-built specifications, acceptance test procedures, and assumed a lead role in the integration of new software, and final acceptance test by the customer.

Programmer/Analyst

I was responsible for maintenance of Financial Accounting System using COBOL. I also participated in conversion Brown and Roots Accounts Receivable system from ISAM to IMS. This task involved modifications to approximately fifty report programs to allow for increased sizes for many of the data fields and for completely new fields. I also designed and coded new reports in order to provide the users with data on the increasingly complicated engineering and construction projects in which Brown and Root took on in the late seventies and early eighties including the STNP project in Bay City, Texas. Heavy user contact was necessary in order to ensure that all newly modified production applications run smoothly and were transitioned over into the appropriate systems support areas.
